Yesterday afternoon, I took a bus to my cousin's house. I usually went there with my mother, but this time I travelled alone. Before I left, she wrote the bus number and the name of the stop on a small card.
At the station, I saw a bus with an open door. I looked quickly at its number and got on. While I was looking for a seat, the driver closed the door. I sat near the window and put the card in my pocket.
After ten minutes, the streets looked strange. The bus passed a large sports centre, but there was no sports centre near my cousin's home. I checked the number above the driver. I was on the wrong bus.
I felt worried, so I spoke to the driver at the next stop. He listened and showed me where to get off safely. Then he pointed to another bus stop across the street. I called my mother before crossing the road.
She was calm. She told me to read the number carefully and ask the next driver before getting on. At the other stop, a woman helped me check the route on a map.
I arrived at my cousin's house later than planned. He was waiting outside with his father. I should check the bus number before every journey. I also learned that asking for help was better than staying silent.
