Every year, my extended family gathers for a large dinner, a tradition that has been passed down for three generations. During this event, old stories are told by my grandparents, recipes are shared between aunts and cousins, and everyone is reminded of where they truly come from.

If these gatherings had been abandoned over the years, I believe our family would have grown apart much more easily, especially since most of us now live in different cities. Traditions, whether religious, cultural, or simply personal, create a sense of belonging that is difficult to replace with anything else.

My grandmother once told me that a family without shared memories is like a tree without roots — it may still stand for a while, but it cannot survive a storm. That idea, which initially sounded overly dramatic to me, now makes complete sense.

Had my family not insisted on keeping these customs alive, I doubt my children would ever understand where they come from. That is exactly why, no matter how busy life becomes, I intend to keep these customs going for future generations.
