One afternoon last month, I was walking home from school with my best friend, Tú. Suddenly, I saw a brown wallet on the sidewalk. I picked it up and opened it. Inside, there was a lot of money, an ID card, and a photo of a little girl.
Tú's eyes were wide. "Wow! There's more money here than we get in a whole year! We could buy new games with it," he said.
For a moment, I wanted to keep it. But then I looked at the photo of the little girl. Maybe her father needed this money for food or medicine. I knew I should give it back.
"We shouldn't keep it," I said. "It isn't ours."
The address on the ID card was only two streets away, so we decided to walk there. A tired man opened the door. When he saw his wallet, his face lit up.
"I was looking for this all morning!" he said. "My rent money is in there. Thank you so much!"
He wanted to give us some money as a reward, but we said no. Instead, he invited us inside, and his wife gave us cold drinks and some cakes. The little girl from the photo showed us her drawings.
On the way home, Tú was quiet for a while. Then he said, "You were right. That felt better than buying new games."
I smiled. That day, I learned that being honest can make you feel happier than having more money.
