How My Grandmother Taught Me to Wrap Banh Chung

Every year, a few days before Tết, my grandmother calls the whole family into her kitchen. This year, for the first time, she has decided to teach me how to wrap bánh chưng — the square sticky rice cake that Vietnamese families never skip during Lunar New Year.

Before we started, my grandmother, who has made this cake every Tết for over forty years, had already soaked the sticky rice and the mung beans overnight.
