What Is Gỏi Cuốn?

Gỏi cuốn is a popular food in Vietnam. In English, people call it "fresh spring rolls" or "summer rolls". It is not fried, so it is light and healthy.

What is inside a gỏi cuốn? There is rice paper on the outside. The paper is thin and soft. Inside, there are shrimp, pork, rice noodles, lettuce and fresh herbs like mint. The colors are beautiful. You can see the pink shrimp through the paper!

People eat gỏi cuốn with a sauce. In the south of Vietnam, the sauce is usually peanut sauce. It is thick, sweet and a little salty. Some people like fish sauce with lime and chili too.

You can buy gỏi cuốn at markets, street stalls and restaurants. It is cheap. One roll usually costs about 5,000 to 10,000 đồng.
