Last week, our English teacher asked each student to give a five-minute talk. We could choose any hobby. I chose cooking because I often helped my father make dinner. However, speaking in front of the class felt much harder than cooking at home.
On Tuesday evening, I wrote my ideas on three small cards. The first card was about my favourite dish. The second explained the ingredients, and the third described the steps. I did not write every sentence because I wanted to look at my classmates.
While I was practising in my room, my brother knocked on the door. He asked to listen. At first, I spoke too quickly and forgot an important step. My brother smiled and asked a question about the dish. His question helped me remember what to say.
We practised again after dinner. This time, I put a picture of the food beside my cards. I could explain the steps more clearly with the picture. My brother also reminded me to stop and breathe between ideas.
On Friday, my hands felt cold before my talk. I looked at the first card and started slowly. I made two small mistakes, but I continued. One classmate asked for the recipe at the end.
I was not the best speaker in the room. Still, I finished my talk and shared something I enjoyed. That evening, my father and I cooked the dish again to celebrate.
