Mai's Camping Trip

Last month, Mai and her family went camping in the mountains for the first time. They packed a tent, sleeping bags, and warm clothes because the mountains were colder than the city.

They drove for three hours and arrived at a small campsite near a river. Mai's dad said, "We should set up the tent before it gets dark." Everyone worked together, and soon the tent was ready.

In the afternoon, Mai and her brother walked along the river. The water there was clearer than the water in their local park. They saw small fish swimming near the rocks. "Look! I can see three fish!" Mai shouted happily.

When evening came, the family cooked dinner over a campfire. They grilled corn and made sandwiches. Mai's mom said, "You must wash your hands before you eat." Mai laughed and ran to wash her hands quickly.

After dinner, they sat around the fire and told stories. The sky was darker than it was at home, so they could see hundreds of stars. Mai thought the stars looked more beautiful than the stars in the city.

The next morning, they woke up early because the birds were very loud. Mai's brother wanted to swim in the river, but their dad said, "You can swim, but you must stay near the shore." They played in the cool water for almost an hour.

Before they left, Mai looked at the mountains one last time. "This camping trip was more fun than I expected," she said. "Can we come back next year?" Her parents smiled and said yes.
