The Journey Beyond the Shop

Tom lives in a small, quiet town with many green trees. Every morning, he wakes up when the sun is still low in the sky. He eats a simple breakfast and walks to a big food shop in the center of town. Tom has worked there for five years. He is a good worker, but he is often bored. He feels that his life is the same every day. He thinks, "Is there more to the world than this shop?"

Last Tuesday, something different happened. Tom did not go to work because he was a little sick. By the afternoon, he felt better, so he decided to go for a walk. He walked to the big park near the river. The birds were singing and the wind was cool. While he was sitting on a wooden chair, he found an old, blue book under the seat. He picked it up and started to read. It was a story about a man who traveled to mountains and oceans.

Tom stayed in the park for three hours. He read every page. When the sun went down, he stood up and said to himself, "I will change my life. I want to see those mountains too."

Now, Tom’s life is changing fast. He is studying English for two hours every night. He has bought a large map and put it on his wall. He has already saved some money. Tomorrow, he is going to visit a travel office to buy a plane ticket. He has never traveled to another country before, but he is not afraid. Next month, he will say goodbye to the food shop. He will fly to a new land and start his big adventure.
